HELP OUT THIS SITE BY MAKING PURCHASES! E-Bay: Offline you paid HOW MUCH for that!?! -- by Teresa Dickert Tired of using all your hard-earned cash on those crazy E-Bay auctions, but still want the excitement of winning bids? Marcus D'Amelio of the Journeyman Press has your answer with his new masterpiece, E-Bay: The Card Game. The idea was born, D'Amelio said, "When I saw all my friends buying copious amounts of product on E-Bay, and basically I decided 'there is a game there.'" Much like another game he is working on (involving the concept of waiting in an amusement park line), E-Bay: The Card Game is something, "Real... close to people's hearts." When D'Amelio first sprung the game concept to the folks at E-Bay (through a few connections) at the San Diego Comic-Con, it was warmly welcomed. "They (E-Bay) thought it was a great idea," explained D'Amelio. E-Bay: The Card Game is the first time the E-Bay company has given license to another company. Much like the real E-Bay, the game allows you to purchase crazy items for over your price range. These include things that were actually for sale (though not banned) in E-Bay's past. Some of the items for sale in the card game include: a phone call from a monkey, a how to play squash video, a real pebble from Pebble Beach, and the Llama Game. Magic: the Gathering players may catch the reference to the ultra-rare Yellow Daisy CCG card. Many of the cards from the bid deck reflect actualities of the real E-Bay as well. Players can receive bad feedback, have a bad money order, expensive shipping, lose their connection, or put in a last-minute bid. According to demonstrator Phil Lacefield of Journeyman Press, "It gets to be a real screw-your-buddy kind of game." E-Bay: The Card Game is unlike the online business in two obvious ways. In this game, you experience bidding wars with almost an infinite money supply (generally not the way the online version works). You also get to know your enemy and remove some of their E-Bucks. So if you are ready to have some fun for $19.95, D'Amelio suggests you will "be pleasantly surprised," by E-Bay: The Card Game. Stop by booth 1123 in the Exhibit Hall for a demo. |
