I know it seems like every webpage you click on these days is pleading for your money, so this seems no different, and I would feel bad that I am even asking for money, BUT, the truth is that you did click on a link so you have to have some kindness in your heart that at least thought about donating for a split-second. (You love my run-on sentence, don't you? Heehee.)
Now, I won't lie and say that "donating to geekers dot org will be the most rewarding experience you will ever have donating money" or even that "your money will save Timmy the poor, starving boy in a third-world country and help him live another day (eh, but clicking here might help you in that pursuit ^_~)," but I can promise you my gratitude (a listing on my site if you would like, a "webcam sign" pic, and perhaps more).
You see, even though I keep my head high, I remain a lowly college student with a not-so-steady part-time job in the mall (which in fact has recently become a "non-job" wherein I remain on their list, but they have no hours for me... so, on to finding another part-time job), and huge college bills every month.
Unfortunately, huge bills are a reality in all of our lives... still, I LOVE having a domain; nothing pleases me in the same capacity as spending time on my site and teaching myself new tricks. ...it feeds the "geek" in me. For some reason, my life has gotten better when I can share it with others... including you! The Internet is a strange place, but I love it... otherwise I would not be the infamous (well, mebbe just semi-popular web gal), geekers.
Though I could play on your emotions more and likely get lots of money and things on my wishlist, I will not. I also do not plan on threating users with "if you do not donate, my site may no longer exist." Though I have little money, I try my hardest to keep the costs of running my domain low, and my attitude about it high. So, for the curious, I will just list a few things I am asking for donations for.
1) Online fee - trust me, this is HUGE... without being online, NO UPDATES *sad*
2) Hosting and domain from hostica.com - currently paying monthly with own money
3) Livejournal - ditto
4) Webcam - *refreshing* paid for licensing fee out of pocket *streaming* I will purchase again and be on cam more often if I could afford the elite membership fee from camarades.com
5) Chat - need donations to purchase an ad-free version with admin controls ($30 per month or $99 per year)
6) ezBoards - thinking of creating after everything else seems to be paid up
